FATHER-SON WOODWORKING TEAM PUTS HEART AND SOUL INTO THEIR WORK

Glen Huey learned furniture making from his dad, Malcolm Huey, a Middletown, Ohio, man who has become known for his 18th and 19th century reproduction furniture. Glen made his first piece - a Sheraton bed - when he was 14. Malcolm Huey loves creating elegant hand-made adaptations of antique Queen Anne and Chippendale furniture styles. So does his son, Glen, who also has a passion for Shaker styling.

Until about seven years ago, Malcolm Huey make his living constructing houses and enjoyed making furniture as a hobby. Soon Glen, who, like his father, had undergone numerous career changes, joined his dad and the two began building a firm reputation for producing authentic reproductions of 18th and 19th century period furniture.

The Hueys zeroed in on those eras because they believe the styles require excellent cabinet and woodcrafting skills. Their work is characterized by handcrafted techniques such as mortise and tenon joinery and dovetailed drawers.
